How to read this simulation +
Drag the image with your mouse or finger to reframe. With the view focused, use the arrow keys to pan. “Center view” resets framing. Portrait view rotates the selected sensor. Focal length changes the angle of view. Distance changes perspective and subject size. A lower f-number creates stronger continuous background blur. Enable “Keep subject size” to see how moving back with a longer lens makes the background appear larger relative to the subject.
Rectilinear lens model. Choose Full Frame (36 × 24 mm), APS-C (23.5 × 15.7 mm), or Medium Format (44 × 33 mm). Other APS-C and medium-format sizes exist; these are the specific formats simulated here. The circle of confusion scales with sensor diagonal from 0.03 mm on full frame, assuming the same viewing size. Equivalent focal length uses diagonal crop factor. The person represents a 1.7 m tall subject; the background plane is 8 m behind it. Blur and depth-of-field calculations use thin-lens optics. The stadium rendering is illustrative: the scene does not model lens aberrations, diffraction, focus breathing, or individual real-world lens limits. The illustrated stadium uses fixed-size structures, with a 36 m wide, 10 m deep raised stage. The person stands on its deck, 8 m in front of the rear equipment. The sky and floor extend across the whole view; extreme combinations may crop the subject or make it very small.
